I am a horse lover, horse owner, and work in law enforcement. I have the "joy" of working in one of Alabama's largest correctional facilities. Every month I book in people for animal abuse - usually against horses. Normally, people who are brought in for animal abuse cases are given a $500 bond and stay in our facility for 24 hours max. before they bond out.

Recently, I had a conversation with one man that was brought in to us. He was boasting about how he had tied a horse to the back of his pick up truck and dragged it until it's legs were torn off. He justified this action by stating that the horse would not lead and had tried to bite his arm earlier in that day.

It took all I had not to bow-up and hit this man, who was now classified as an inmate. I stood there with one other officer and informed the man that I owned an Arabian who would not lead at one time. After patience and work he is now a perfectly behaved show horse who now pays for himself.

This man informed me that he has killed several "useless nags".

People like this man do not deserve to bond out of our jails! This man returned to our custody one week later because he had starved a foal to death as punishment for the baby not coming when called.

I support the ban horse slaughter 100%. I could care less about the horse's condition when sent to slaughter. No horses deserve to die at the hands of these kinds of people.

I have seen horses that look like "walking death" turn into wonderful school horses for kids everywhere. All it takes is some TLC.

We have brought several skinny horses whom no one else had any faith in to our stable. Within two months, these horses were fat & happy. Once they get their weight back and their spirits are lifted... We begin to reintroduce them to training. We do not believe in punishing a horse for not knowing any better!

To everyone who is involved in horse slaughter and believes that horses are less than beautiful creatures who deserve to be protected...

"You are all horrible scum. There is no justification for your actions. Horses should not be eaten by humans! That is why we have cattle, pigs and other animals who were given to us by God for consumption. I hope that everyone who is involved in the slaughter business is brought to justice."

Thank you!
Angela
